Supercomputing Advisor & HPC Training Coordinator at NCC Netherlands
Xavier Álvarez Farré was born in Barcelona. He received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering in 2014, followed by his M.Sc. in Thermal Engineering in 2016, both from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
After gaining valuable industry experience for a year, he embarked on an academic journey, becoming a graduate research fellow and teaching assistant at the Heat and Mass Transfer Technological Center (CTTC) at UPC. In 2022, Xavier received his Ph.D. in Thermal Engineering. Throughout his doctoral studies, he contributed to the development of TermoFluids, an in-house computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. His research specifically focused on the implementation and optimization of numerical algorithms, encompassing shared- and distributed-memory parallelization techniques, as well as stream processing for GPUs.
Following the completion of his Ph.D., Xavier joined SURF as a Supercomputing Advisor. Within this role, he also serves as the EuroCC vice coordinator for HPC training, catering to both academia and industry in the Netherlands.
