Stéphane Requena is Director of Technology and Innovation at GENCI (France). Previously he has been during 10 years in charge of the HPC facilities at Institut Français du Pétrole (now IFPEN) involved into optimisation and parallelisation of oil & gas (geology, seismic, reservoir modeling) and automotive applications.

He also worked at CS a French service company in parallelising applications in the field of energy for EDF and CEA. At GENCI since 2007 he has been involved in several national and European major HPC procurement as well as European projects including PRACE aisbl (as member of the Board of Directors), PRACE implementation projects (Prace-xIP), PPI4HPC (Public Procurement of HPC Innovative Solutions), Mont-Blanc (toward ARM based architectures used for HPC), EPI and EUPEX (toward designing European Processor technologies), EESI (European Exascale Software Initiative) and EXDCI (European eXtreme Data and Computing Initiative) in relation to the scientific and industrial applications roadmaps.

He served also within EuroHPC as Chair of INFRAG and deeply involved into Jules Verne consortium toward the 2nd EuroHPC Exascale system leading to Alice Recoque. At GENCI he is also in charge of the development of innovative services toward the use of AI, quantum computing, use of urgent computing for decision making, link with scientific instruments and the technical part of GENCI’s procurements for HPC, quantum and storage facilities.

Title of the talk : Alice Recoque, a French, a Dutch and a European post Exascale vision for Europe

Abstract of the talk
Following the deployment of JUPITER the first EuroHPC Exascale system in Germany, a consortium called Jules Verne led by France with The Netherlands (represented by SURF) and Greece (represented by GRNET) has been selected by EuroHPC JU to acquire, deploy and operate Alice Recoque starting 2027 in France (TGCC, CEA).
This system provided by BULL will pave the path to post Exascale services in Europe with the convergence of numerical simulation, artificial intelligence and hybrid quantum computing as well as the integration of new services in the field of agentic AI for research, ingestion and inference of scientific data from large scale instruments and urgent computing for decision making. Alice Recoque will be the more European HPC system ever deployed thanks for the integration of infrastructure, computing, networking and software technologies, open to all European scientific and industrial applications and a perfect testbed to integrated new European technologies.
