New European Quantum Computer in Amsterdam

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking has selected SURF (our coordinating partner of EuroCC Netherlands) in collaboration with Quantum Delta NL to host a new quantum computer in the Netherlands, marking a significant step in Europe’s leadership in quantum technologies. Located at Amsterdam Science Park and integrated with the Dutch supercomputer Snellius, this system will use semiconductor spin qubits, known for their scalability and alignment with Europe’s strong semiconductor industry.

The new quantum computer will enhance the EuroHPC ecosystem, solving complex tasks that traditional supercomputers struggle with, from traffic optimization to drug development. It will be available for European researchers, industry, and public sector users, driving innovation across the continent.

The EuroSSQ-HPC consortium will jointly operate the new EuroHPC quantum computer, handling user support and all integration activities. The consortium represents a true collaborative effort, bringing together seven partners from three countries: the University of Antwerpen (BE), GENCI (France), Netherlands eScience Center (NL), Leiden University (NL), Delft University of Technology (NL), National Institute of Subatomic Physics (NL) and SURF (NL).
